Virechanam is the medicated purgation therapy that completely cleanses the body of the pitta dosha, and removes toxins from the gastrointestinal tract, liver and gallbladder.

The procedure is carried out by liquefying and smoothening the doshas and brings them to the intestine before the actual treatment is given. On the day of the therapy, virechanam specific drugs are given to the patient to induce bowel movements.
